“Easy” Otter fundraiser

Last month we announced that the TCC, CineSouth Studios and EasyEquities were partnering to present two free work-in-progress screenings of our Speak Me A Speech film project at the US Toyota Woordfees in October. EasyEquities was also one of the sponsors of the “Shakespeare Towards An End” conference co-hosted by the TCC and the Shakespeare Society of Southern Africa earlier this year.

Now we are taking our partnership with EasyEquities one step further . . . or perhaps that should be 7 000 steps . . .

Tsikinya-Chaka Centre Director Chris Thurman is an eager runner. In 2019 he pounded the tar between Durban and Pietermaritzburg to complete the famous Comrades Marathon, in the process raising funds to support Wits University students in financial need.

Now, thanks to EasyEquities - presenting partner of the Otter African Trail Run - Thurman has the opportunity to tackle “the Grail of Trail” on 5 October. This is no ordinary marathon: the 42km route entails a total ascent of 2 500m, 7 000+ stairs, four river crossings and lots of tricky terrain! (Watch the video of highlights from last year’s race to get a sense of the Otter Challenge route.)

Once again the aim is to raise funds to help Wits students. The preliminary target is R30 000 but we hope to pass that goal before race day (the campaign continues until 13 October). All contributions are welcome.
